WEEE recycling is a process of converting waste into products of the same or different use, on condition that specific treatment steps have been taken, which lead to the removal of hazardous elements from them and the recovery of their usable materials.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Appliances Recycling S.A. is a Collective System for the Alternative Management of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment approved by the Hellenic Recycling Agency (EOAN), which comes under the Ministry of Environment and Energy (YPEN). It is a special purpose, non-profit company.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

When we recycle our old electrical and electronic devices, we reduce the volume of waste, we actively participate in saving on natural resources and energy, and we reduce the risk of pollution from toxic substances contained in electrical devices, as well as from the extra processes necessary for the treatment of raw materials.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

The financial resources of the company come from the contributions of the associate companies that produce, import and resell electrical and electronic equipment. By collaborating with Appliances Recycling S.A., these companies fulfill their obligations regarding the alternative management of WEEE according to the European and Greek legislation. The profit of use is not distributed; on the contrary, it is converted to a reserve capital, which is mandatorily used to cover potential losses from subsequent uses (Law 3220\/2004, article 5), thus enabling the system to continue recycling WEEE.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

All plug-in or battery-operated electrical and electronic devices are recycled. In specific, all electrical and electronic devices are recycled, including light bulbs, toner and ink cartridges. We can recycle our devices at over 15,000 recycling collection points throughout the country, in electrical and electronic stores, supermarket chains, as well as at municipal locations, such as Town Halls, Customer Service Centers (KEP), and Centers for the Open Care for the Elderly (KAPI).<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Many electrical and electronic devices contain potentially dangerous elements in their parts, such as heavy metals or substances that attack the ozone layer and affect the planet\u2019s thermal dynamics. These elements only become dangerous when they are disposed of as “general” waste and we do not treat them in an environmentally proper way.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

For as long as they are used according to the manufacturer\u2019s instructions, the devices do not pose any threat. However, if we do not manage them properly after they reach the end of their useful life, there is a risk that the hazardous materials they contain, might escape into the environment. For this reason, it is crucial that the devices are delivered to the proper recycling collection points of Appliances Recycling S.A. and not end up in the regular garbage bins.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Any store that sells electrical appliances must by law accept your old device. Moreover, stores with EEE sales areas of at least 400 m2<\/sup> must offer the possibility of free disposal of small appliances without having to purchase a corresponding appliance. In fact, all electrical goods chains and several independent stores across the country have a recycling bin for small appliances as part of their cooperation with Appliances Recycling S.A. In case a store cannot serve you, don\u2019t hesitate to contact the store\u2019s management or Appliances Recycling S.A.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Appliances Recycling S.A. maintains regular communication with all the municipalities in the country and has conducted contracts with the municipalities that have responded (80%). It provides them with all the required means of recycling, offers know-how with trainings, updates and best practices, as well as supports their actions to inform citizens and raise their awareness.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

All devices delivered for recycling are transported to one of the twelve licensed cooperating units across Greece. These facilities process old devices to remove hazardous substances and recover reusable materials, which are then reintegrated into the production of new products.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
